· General Electric (GE 19.17, +0.74, +4.02%) is expected to report fourth-quarter earnings of 32 cents a share, according to a consensus survey by FactSet Research.
· Bank of America (BAC 14.42, -0.12, -0.83%) is projected to post fourth-quarter earnings of 18 cents a share.
· Schlumberger (SLB 87.40, +2.12, +2.49%) is forecast to report earnings of 78 cents a share in the fourth quarter.
· BB&T Corp. (BBT 27.08, -0.21, -0.77%) is likely to post fourth-quarter earnings of 25 cents a share.
· Air Products and Chemicals Inc. (APD 87.26, -1.25, -1.41%) is expected to report first-quarter earnings of $1.34 a share.
· After Thursday’s closing bell, Google Inc. GOOG 640.48, +13.71, +2.19%) said its fourth-quarter net income rose to $2.54 billion, or $7.81 a share, from $1.97 billion, or $6.13 a share, in the same period a year earlier. The Internet search giant said net revenue came in at $6.37 billion. The company also announced that co-founder Larry Page will assume the role of chief executive officer starting in early April and co-founder Sergey Brin will focus on strategic projects while CEO Eric Schmidt will assume the role of executive chairman.
· Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD 8.10, +0.08, +1.00%) reported fourth-quarter net income of $375 million, or 50 cents a share, compared with earnings of $1.1 million, or $1.52 a share, for the same period last year. On an adjusted basis, earnings would have been $106 million, or 14 cents a share. Revenue was flat at $1.65 billion.
· Capital One Financial Corp. (COF 47.25, -0.07, -0.15%) said fourth-quarter net income came in at $697 million, or $1.52 a share, up from $376 million, or 83 cents a share, in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue fell 1.3% to $4 billion.
· Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ 46.84, +0.06, +0.13%) said four members of its board of directors — Joel Hyatt, John Joyce, Robert Ryan and Lucille Salhany — are not standing for re-election. It also named five new board members, including Meg Whitman, ex-CEO of eBay Inc. who lost her bid for the California governorship last year.
· Intuitive Surgical (ISRG 325.32, +35.49, +12.25%) reported its fourth-quarter net income jumped to $121.2 million, or $3.02 a share, from $77.5 million, or $1.95 a share, in the same period last year. Revenue increased 21% to $389.3 million.
· J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (JPM 44.87, +0.12, +0.27%) named 14-year veteran Jimmy Elliott global chairman of mergers and acquisitions. It also hired Jim Woolery as the co-head of North America M&A with Chris Ventresca
